about

The music here was written and recorded on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land. I want to acknowledge the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people as the owners of these lands, and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded. I further pay respect to ongoing Indigenous practices and traditions of song and knowledge.

This release is called "Stretching" because of that word's associations with limbering up, testing, training or practising, and to a lesser extent, healing.

Over the course of 2021, through You Are Here's Cahoots program, I worked on developing a model for solo performance (among other things). Through these pieces, I'm trying to give this model its first tests. I'm trying to limber it up, gently stretch it or stretch myself inside it, see where it's tense and where it's fluid.

The pieces are also "stretches" themselves, in the sense of a stretch for a sore muscle.
Documenting and reflecting on the past year a little bit. Stretching out after a period that contained a lot of soreness.

I'm grateful to Ketura and Nick at You Are Here, and my cohort in Cahoots.
I'm grateful to my friends and family in all spaces.
